Mizoram

Mizoram is sprawled across 21,087 sq kilometres and shares a border with Bangladesh to the west and Myanmar to the east and south. Given that it has an international boundary of 722 kilometers, the state’s location is of great strategic importance. It boasts about 21 hill ranges with an average height of 12,00 metres above sea level. The highest mountain in Mizoram is Phawngpui or Blue Mountain which reaches a height of 2,360 metres above sea level. These hills are interspersed with valleys and 16 major rivers. River Tlawng with a length of 185.15 kilometres is the longest river in the state.

All about Mizoram

Mizoram is a landlocked state in North East India whose southern part shares 722 kilometres long international borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, and northern part share domestic borders with Manipur, Assam and Tripura. It is the fifth smallest state of India with 21,087 km2 (8,142 sq mi). It extends from 21°56'N to 24°31'N, and 92°16'E to 93°26'E. The tropic of cancer runs through the state nearly at its middle. The maximum north–south distance is 285 km, while maximum east–west stretch is 115 km.

Mizoram is a land of rolling hills, valleys, rivers and lakes. As many as 21 major hill ranges or peaks of different heights run through the length and breadth of the state, with plains scattered here and there. The average height of the hills to the west of the state is about 1,000 metres (3,300 ft). These gradually rise up to 1,300 metres (4,300 ft) to the east. Some areas, however, have higher ranges which go up to a height of over 2,000 metres (6,600 ft). Phawngpui Tlang also known as the Blue Mountain, situated in the southeastern part of the state, is the highest peak in Mizoram at 2,210 metres (7,250 ft). About 76% of the state is covered by forests, 8% is fallows land, 3% is barren and considered uncultivable area, while cultivable and sown area constitutes the rest. Slash-and-burn or jhum cultivation, though discouraged, remains in practice in Mizoram and affects its topography. A report by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in 2021 states that Mizoram has the highest forest cover as a percentage of its geographical area of any Indian state, being 84.53% forest.

Mizoram is host to numerous species of birds, wildlife and flora. About 640 species of birds have been identified in the state, many of which are endemic to the Himalayan foothills and southeast Asia. Of the birds found in Mizoram forests, 27 are on the worldwide threatened species lists and eight are on the critically endangered list. Prominent birds spotted in Mizoram include those from the families of Phasianidae, Anatidae, Ciconiidae, Threskiornithidae, Ardeidae, Pelecanidae, Phalacrocoracidae, Falconidae, Accipitridae, Otididae, Rallidae, Heliornithidae, Turnicidae, Burhinidae, Charadriidae, Scolopacidae, Jacanidae, Laridae, Columbidae, Psittacidae, Cuculidae, Strigidae, Caprimulgidae, Apodidae, Alcedinidae, Meropidae, Bucerotidae, Ramphastidae, Picidae, Pittidae, Laniidae, Campephagidae, Dicruridae, Corvidae, Paridae, Hirundinidae, Cisticolidae, Pycnonotidae, Sylviidae, Timaliidae, Sittidae, Sturnidae, Turdidae, Dicaedae, Chloropseidae, Ploceidae, Motacillidae, Fringillidae, Nectariniidae and Muscicapidae.

  1. Day 1 Guwahati - Aizawl (By Flight)

    (Reach Aizawl At 10 Am)

    Arrive Aizawl and transfer Thenzawl. Enroute visit of Vantawng Fall. Later proceed to Thenzawl. Overnight stay at Thenzawl Golf Resort. ( May take about 05 to 06 hrs due to bad road condition ).

  2. Day 2 Thenzawl - Aizawl Local

    Morning after breakfast back to Aizwal & later visit Durtlang. Durtlang is perched on the northern side of Aizawl, it offers a glorious view of the picturesque scenery of the city. Evening free to scroll around the local market by foot. Overnight at Hotel.

  3. Day 3 Aizawl

    After Breakfast we will drive to Reiek which is approximately one hour drive from Aizawl city. It is a place that has the perfect choice for both the adventurous and the nature lovers. You can find Typical Mizo Village and a beautiful Reiek Tlang (Reiek peak) of 5110ft. Afternoon leave for Aizawl and visit Bara Bazar, the main Shopping Centre of Aizawl. Overnight at Hotel.

  4. Day 4 Aizawl - Kolkata (By Flight.)

    After breakfast transfer to the Lengpui Airport to catch flight back home.

  1. Day 1 Aizwal Fly

    Arrive Lengpui Airport of Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram by flight and drive to Aizawl city (about 01 hrs). Arrive Aizawl and check in at Hotel, freshen up & after lunch we visit Durtlang. Durtlang is perched on the northern side of Aizawl, it offers a glorious view of the picturesque scenery of the city. Evening free to scroll around the local market by foot. Overnight at Hotel.

  2. Day 2 Aizwal

    After Breakfast we will drive to Reiek which is approximately one hour drive from Aizawl city. It is a place that has the perfect choice for both the adventurous and the nature lovers. Falkawn village depicts the livelihoods and cultures of the Mizo people, who form the biggest tribe of the state. Located 22 km away from the capital city of Aizawl Falkawn village is a unique concept and an effort to provide people with an insight into one of the greatest tribal cultures of our land later visit State Museum, situated in the center of Aizawl city, this small yet beautiful museum gives a complete insight into the culture and tradition of Mizoram. Afterwards we visit Solomon's Temple & Mizo Taj Mahal Overnight at Hotel

  4. Day 4 Aizwal Airport Drop

    After breakfast transfer to the Lengpui Airport to catch flight back home.
